MAMMOTH LAKES RECREATION TO SCREEN “DIRT MAGIC” AND “PEDAL DRIVEN”
In celebration of Bike Month, Mammoth Lakes Recreation announced this week that it will be screening two feature-length movies; “Dirt Magic” and “Pedal Driven.”
On Tuesday, September 17th, Mammoth Lakes Recreation will be hosting a screening of Patagonia’s new film, “Dirt Magic” which documents Downieville, CA’s journey from dying mining town to mountain-biking mecca. Inspired by a desire to save their home trails, shaped by a grassroots-organization’s unintentional stewardship and fueled by the sport’s rowdiest festival, Downieville’s newest dirt miners are using their reputation to create a model community for struggling mountain towns across the globe.
Dirt Magic will be shown at Minaret Cinemas, located at 437 Old Mammoth Road, on September 17th at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $6.50. A portion of proceeds goes to support the Mammoth Lakes Trail System.
On Tuesday, September 24th, Mammoth Lakes Recreation and Footloose Sports will be screening “Pedal Magic.” Created in partnership with the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) and the United States Forest Service, Pedal Magic documents the struggle to establish public-use mountain biking trail in Leavenworth, Washington. The film depicts the conflict from both sides, interviewing local mountain bikes enthusiasts and land managers.
“This film serves as a road map for those of us working to establish new use trails,” says Matt McClain, Executive Director of Mammoth Lakes Recreation.
Following the film, David Page, Chair of the Mammoth Lakes Recreation Board of Directors, will moderate a panel discussion focusing on the challenges trail building on public lands.
Pedal Driven will be screened at 7:00 p.m. at Footloose Sports, located at 3043 Main Street, in Mammoth Lakes. Admission is free. The screening will take place outdoors, so audience members are encouraged to dress appropriately and bring a lawn or camp chair.
