MEASURE U SPOTLIGHT: EASTERN SIERRA COMMUNITY CHORUS

Measure U Grant recipient and local choral group, Eastern Sierra Community Chorus, was contacted last spring by a production company for Carnegie Hall. The ask had an easy answer. YES, they would like to perform there!

After their spring concert in May, ESCC sent a recording of their performance, Seal Lullaby by Eric Whitacre, to Carnegie Hall and they were invited to come perform. The performance will be on April 13, 2026.  Eric Whitacre is a star among chorus composers and conductors.  Nancy Holland, the ESCC Director has worked with Whitacre, both at the University of Southern California, where she earned her doctorate in conducting, and at Pasadena City College when she was conducting the Chamber Singers.

Eastern Sierra Community Chorus currently has 25 members of the chorus, along with about 10 audience members, signed up to go on the trip to Carnegie Hall next April. In the meantime, 40 chorus members have already committed to singing in the chorus this fall at the Winter Concert, Dec 5 at 7:30 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mammoth and Dec 6, at 7:00 pm at Cero Cosso Community College in Bishop.  At the Winter Concerts, ESCC will perform excerpts from Messiah, including the Hallelujah Chorus as well as Five Hebrew Love Songs by Eric Whitacre, with the Eastern Sierra Chamber Orchestra, directed by Brian Schuldt.

Interested in becoming a part of this great group?

Rehearsals begin September 11 at the Mammoth High School Band Room, from 6 - 8 pm.
