MLR is governed by a board of nine volunteer directors, including one appointee from Town Council and one from the board of Mammoth Lakes Tourism. Terms expire every two years, with four terms expiring in even years and three in odd years. The two appointed positions do not expire while the appointee has status with the appointing organization.

Tom has been a passionate Mammoth recreator since 1998 and moved his family to Mammoth permanently in 2012. He is an avid skier, snowboarder, mountain biker, hiker and golfer. He has developed a unique skill set over the course of his career, spending 6 years running a chain of coffee shops, 5 years teaching literature at UCLA and LMU, 6 years as a General Contractor building homes in L.A., and 7 years as a marketing executive. Tom currently serves as Director of Marketing at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.

David is a national award-winning journalist and finalist for a 2015 National Magazine Award. Based in Mammoth Lakes, he has written for the Los Angeles Times Magazine, Men’s Journal, Ski, Skiing, Powder, The New York Times, Outside, and many other publications, and is the author of the Lowell Thomas Award-winning Explorer’s Guide to Yosemite & the Southern Sierra Nevada (Countryman Press). He is a co-founder and former C.O.O. of Mammoth Medical Missions.

Rachael is a Southern California native that first starting visiting Mammoth in 1980. Since then she has been a frequent visitor and in 2010 fulfilled her life long dream of purchasing a home in Mammoth. Rachael is a fitness enthusiast that loves all outdoor activities including downhill and cross country skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and boating. Rachael has two boys that love to ski, fish and mountain bike. Rachael is a CPA that brings extensive accounting and finance experience to the MLR Board. After graduating from SDSU, she worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate where she was CFO for 14 years. In 2013 Rachael started AccessCFO’s that provides fractional CFO and outsourced accounting services to growing businesses. Rachael is passionate about Mammoth’s future and is excited to serve on the MLR Board and support it’s dedication in preserving and enriching the quality of life for residents and visitors.

Gary moved to Mammoth Lakes two years ago after driving up and down Hwy 395 for 20 years from LA to pursue his passion in skiing, biking, hiking, camping and breathing hard at 9,000 feet!! After graduating with honors from University, Gary started his career as a hard news journalist on the UK national daily newspapers before moving to Los Angeles where he founded a celebrity newswire that fed Hollywood to the world’s media. Gary has a passion for Mammoth’s growth and has recently joined MLR to participate in the dream of making Mammoth the country’s best alpine high altitude resort.
Shields has been a resident of Mammoth Lakes for 17 years and learned to ski here in 1964. He is the owner of the Side Door restaurant, an owner/broker at Mammoth Village Properties (real estate sales) and the owner of Mammoth Airport Center (a 30,000 sq. ft. mixed use industrial building). Shields has been married to his wife Kathy for 42 years and has three grown children; two who live and work in Mammoth, and two grandchildren. Shields is passionate about our community. He serves as an Executive Committee/Board Member for Mammoth Lakes Foundation, Board Member for Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra as well as past Commissioner for Tourism and Recreation. Before living in Mammoth Shields was also a member of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee/Technical Organizer for the Modern Pentathlon. Richardson began his career at Price Waterhouse & Co. after graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in Finance and Accounting. With an extensive background in advertising, sales and finance, he founded Digital Outdoor, developing creative outlets for outdoor and transit advertising.
Scott first moved to Mammoth Lakes in 1996. After leaving (and returning) a few times for career opportunities, he returned full time in 2011 and open The Mountain Lab, a Brand Strategy and Product Innovation consulting firm focused on the Outdoor Industry. Skiing, trail running and recreating with his three young children keep him outside whenever possible. He also serves on the board of Mammoth Medical Missions, is a volunteer firefighter in Long Valley and speaks globally on trends in the outdoor recreation space.

After growing up in Lake Tahoe and attending Brown University, Drea lived and traveled in South America and Europe while working as an international tour leader. Mammoth Lakes has been her home since 2002, where she is an active community member and business owner. Drea enjoys mountain biking, hiking, swimming, skiing, ice skating, seeing local plays and hearing local music with her husband Jeff, son Wade and daughter Lucy.
